How To Start Stopping The Squirrels

If you want to get squirrels out of your yard there are a number of things you can do.

Let's start at the beginning.

This may seem obvious but the best way to start your ordeal of getting rid of squirrels is to ... Stop Feeding Them.

This means intentional and unintentional.

If you are putting food or nuts in your yard to feed them (so you can watch them), you must stop this.

If you have a bird feeder, the seeds may be dropping from the feeder onto the ground. The squirrels find this and can have a feast. Try to keep it clean.

You may have nuts or fruit falling on the ground from trees. Try cleaning them up.

You may have food coming from your neighbor's tree. Check it out and clean it up.

As long as the squirrels know where to get food, they will continue to come back to it. It is easy food for them so they will enjoy it.

Removing their easy source of food is your first step in this battle. If that doesn't work, you have to move on to the next step. This will be discussed later.

Squirrels in the news again in UK

As you may have read in another post here, UK'ers love their native "red" squirrels and hate the "gray" squirrels.

Well they don't really hate "gray" squirrels since they are becoming a delicacy at some places.

By eating "gray" squirrels they are helping to control (or reduce) the gray squirrel population.

Turns out that in Inverness, they spotted a gray squirrel. They are now "up in arms" in trying to catch this gray squirrel because it seems like the gray squirrel was practically eliminated in this area.

There are fears that the gray squirrel population will "explode" thus helping reduce the beloved red squirrel population. Do all stops have been pulled in trying to get this squirrel.

Squirrel Delicacy in Britain

Just read in the news that squirrel meat is becoming a new delicacy in Great Britain.

That is gray squirrel meat - to be exact. It is said the "Gray" are being eaten to help save the native "Red" squirrels which have been dwindling in numbers for the last few years.

The squirrel meat is supposed to be low in fat and taste similar to rabbit.

Demand is so high that butchers can't keep up.

Yum yum!!!

Welcome To Our Controlling Squirrels Blog

Let's begin with the basics in how to control squirrels and get rid of them forever.

But first, before you do anything drastic in trying to get rid of squirrels, you should know that local regulations sometime prohibit poisoning, shooting or releasing squirrels. So, if you want to remain 'legal', it is best to check with your local authorities about these regulations.

Often times, one of the best sources for finding information on the regulations of squirrels, in your area, is your local hardware store. Generally, these people know the regulations and can even suggest some ways to get rid of the pests. This might be poison or maybe they rent "live traps". Their help is important, because if they suggest "poison", some poisons are better than others in certain areas of the US, so they can lead you in the right way.

Poisons are not the only way to control or get rid of squirrels. Check back and we will move on to the next topic, or if you want something sooner, please visit http://ControllingSquirrels.com where you can get more information on the $5 Definitive Guide To Controlling Squirrels.
